Fleet Manager Job Description

The following information accurately describes the K&B Transportation, career Fleet Manager job aspects. The company Fleet Manager and Customer Service Manager positions involve daily interface with our driver personnel and our shipper/customer base personnel. This is a management career position requiring a significant amount of training in the supervision and management of people, systems and procedures. Hours: 0700-1700 M-F, 0700-Noon two out of three Saturday's & every 5th Sunday from 7AM to Noon and if you work Sunday, you get the following Tuesday or Wednesday off.

  • Geographic routing of equipment/drivers to shipper and customer destinations, using the PC Miler computerized routing system
  • Issuance and management of advance/expense money to driver personnel. Verifying the usage of the money, daily and weekly accounting by driver of where the money was spent and the level of advance given for a particular period of time. Basic expense money management
  • Monitoring of on-time pickup and delivery performance to a 99% standard
  • Monitoring of driver time-off periods, and compliance with company standards, and management of driver time-off periods to assure that excessive non-revenue days do not occur
  • Monitoring of mileage performance by driver/truck to assure that company weekly mileage goals of at least 2500 miles per week are achieved on each driver
  • Monitor daily hours of service federal compliance on each driver, ensuring that proper trip planning is achieved to maximize customer service, on-time performance within the hours of service regulations
  • Become familiar with taking minor accident and OS&D reports in harmony with company procedures. Ensure continuous seal records are being maintained at every customer stop.
  • Ensure that driver's personal needs are attended to in terms of scheduling for emergencies and family oriented items, and reschedule loads as necessary to satisfy the needs of both the driver and the customer we are serving. Initiate load relays as a solution to emergencies.
  • Focus on driver retention rate and adhere to company standards for minimizing turnover in your assigned fleet of equipment
  • Conduct driver counseling regarding infractions of rules, and procedures as necessary
  • Handle maintenance/repair functions as needed within your fleet
  • Perform occasional night and weekend on-call duties as may be assigned q Disposition of pallets & hook counts at end of each load where applicable
  • Ensure that all payroll items are promptly and accurately entered into the computer system
  • Be familiar and utilize the Qual-Comm satellite system of communication and tracking of your fleet of equipment and forward info to night dispatch on special instructions for your trucks
  • Maintain required performance monitoring reports as directed by your supervisor, and complete timely reports as directed by management
  • Practice punctuality and efficiency when completing all assigned tasks, and ensure that you are at your appointed workstation at the appropriate start times.
  • Be familiar with Federal regulations regarding hazardous material hauling, hours of service regulations and accident reporting
  • Interface with customer service in such a manner that assures the shippers/customers needs are being met regarding service
