K & B Transportation Inc. incorporated in 1987 by the Ackerman family to haul meat products for IBP. Today, this family owned and operated transportation company specializes in the transportation of refrigerated food products.
The Corporate office and shop pictured above is located on 20 acres in South Sioux City, NE with a satellite terminal operation in Rochelle IL to manage a dedicated fleet for Sara Lee Foods, Pilgrims Paine satellite operation in Athens, GA.
K & B Transportation is really a dedicated team of transportation professionals who prefer to resolve problems rather than leaving the outcome to chance. The "Team" prospers and continues to grow by economically improving our customer's service level.
K & B Transportation Inc. currently operates 525 power units and 950 trailers. The tractors are Freightliner Classics XL with 470 Detroit Diesel engines and Qualcomm communication (GPS) packages. The trailers are Wabash refrigerated boxes 53' X 102' equipped with Carrier Refrigerated Units.
These assets produce about 50,000,000 miles a year between our various fleets and an on-time service level of 99% on time. Systems
- All computer processing, including the Qualcomm GPS takes place on an IBM AS 400.
- We currently transmit and/or receive EDI 204's (load tenders), 990's (response to a load tender), 210's (invoicing) and 214's (load status).
- We use Qualcomm GPS and Messaging systems to verify equipment locations and provide timely customer service information.
- Due to the nature of our dedicated operation, system uptime is extremely important. We maintain an off-site backup center 20 miles from the South Sioux City terminal. Our AS400 is mirrored at the backup site, which contains 40 fully functional workstations. Our Corporate office is equipped with a Cummins Back-up generator that can power the office and shop within 3 seconds after losing power. The AS 400 has a Raid 5 back-up system and data backups are stored off site daily. All internet and phone systems have redundant service providers to reduce the possibility of an outage.
